Class in Session: Museum Field Trip + Portrait Session

  • 161 Essex Street Salem, MA, 01970 United States (map)

Join me for the next “Class in Session”, this time, we step beyond the studio and into a physical archive of inspiration. Together as a group, we’ll take a field trip to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, spending the day immersed in art, history, and quiet observation. We’ll move intentionally through select galleries, centering on 400 Years of Salem while also experiencing the powerful sculptural work of Edmonia Lewis in Said in Stone. These spaces invite reflection, curiosity, and creative awakening, all while offering unexpected sparks for our own visual language.

In our intimate group, you’ll be provided a notebook to document your findings and inspiration. You’ll be encouraged to linger, to feel, and to choose 1–3 works that speak to something deeper within you, whether through memory, symbolism, or something harder to name, so that those resonances can asct as a guide to your own portrait.

We’ll pause for a light lunch in the museum café, before gathering again to share your chosen pieces in thoughtful conversation. This is where your personal mythology begins to take shape, quietly weaving meaning into story.

From there, each participant will be scheduled into a private mini portrait session. Drawing from the imagery, emotion, and meaning you uncovered, we will transmute your experience into a fine art portrait, an embodiment of what called to you.

It’s a curious, soulful process of seeing, feeling, and becoming.
