Wood Wives

The winter woods, with out a snow flake fallen, ice and moss wrap around pines and stone. The trees speak softly of wild hunts and woodwose in the valley. Toil briskly for the day light fades and Holda’s fiery fog rushes dusk. Soon a blanket of feathery dust will mark your trails. Underneath the oak sits your king waiting for your breast and body.

Dreamland

“When midnight mists are creeping,
And all the land is sleeping,
Around me tread the mighty dead,
And slowly pass away.
Lo, warriors, saints, and sages,
From out the vanished ages,
With solemn pace and reverend face
Appear and pass away.
The blaze of noonday splendour,
The twilight soft and tender,
May charm the eye: yet they shall die,
Shall die and pass away.
But here, in Dreamland’s centre,
No spoiler’s hand may enter,
These visions fair, this radiance rare,
Shall never pass away.
I see the shadows falling,
The forms of old recalling;
Around me tread the mighty dead,
And slowly pass away.”

The Sands Of Time MMXI

2011 is almost over, just hours minute and seconds remain, no longer to have days or evenings left. 2012 is pushing through, crowning,if you will, into being. Perhaps it’s a new dawn, or a setting sun, I am not sure what this new year will hold, and just like the last I will not make a prediction for what so many month could possibly hold. The one thing I am will wager is that it will in fact be a change, it will be different.

Netting

I was playing around with a vintage hat that I picked up at last fall’s Brimfield show. The hat is a hard hat to wear because it’s so old and the viel is so large and white.. but I love it none the less.  The hat is a fine straw with velvety flowers upon top. I will be sure to share more photos of it once I find just the right outfit to wear it with.

Mohair Loops

Back when the sun was still out past five, and the leaves gently swayed in the summer breeze, is when me and this lovely sweater crossed paths. I couldn’t resist it. Although wearing it some how makes me feel someplace between a snowman and Marilyn Monroe. It’s certainly sweater weather now, and although I didn’t leave the house today, which is reason enough fo me to not wear pants, I still felt the need to snuggle up in some warm winter white.

Sweater is Vintage Saks Fifth Avenue, Hat was Thrifted, Sunglasses found at the local antique market.

Cold Dark White Magic of Winter

Winter a time for the north to freeze and sleep. To dream and to praise the warmth of the fire. The world seems trapped in a magical spell, a time when gloom and glitter unite. The world seems to be laying out a fresh sheet paper over the earth so you may etch into it the things your dreams are made of. Crisp, pure, freezing magic, winter.

Apple Flavored Birthday Cake

A brief photo summary of the lovely Emily Rose’s Birthday weekend in NYC!!! I don’t actually have words for the love I have for that woman or to even explain how much fun I had!

we even ran into some more hometown boys from Palmer celebrating birthdays in the big apple.

Headed home for some late night dark & stormy’s and fried chicken in our nighties.

Dark Frozen Waves

On the shores of Plymouth, the bay rolls in and rounded stones part the sand. The air is cold but the salt in the air is heavy. The lull of the waves, the distant call of the cormorants perched on large boulders, it’s like a siren’s call, pulling me to walk somberly into the salty dark water with no regard for decembers icy grip. It’s peaceful here, with the only other bodies on the beach being remnants of the crabs that the gulls have eaten.

Sweet Red Voice

Just a few weekends past I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with the enchanting Marissa Nadler.  She is a lovely creature with an even more lovely voice. I feel honored to have worked with her on these shots for her soon to be released ”sister” album. Her songs seem to haunt around me when I listen to them, so it’s no wonder why we seem to work so well together.

We spent the afternoon in the sun surrounded by baren birch trees and lingered by the waters edge.  It’s hard to capture such beauty with light and magic but these are some of the spells we cast.

Middle America

The last month and a half have been busy to say the least and I just have not had the chance to fill you all in on whats been going on.  Back in November I was in St. Louise with my girls Emily and Sam working on cleaning up the Donnaland warehouse. That’s part of it in the photo up there. It’s in the old haunted Lemp Brewery.( we even had to rescue Donna from the haunted floating elevatore) The clothes seemed to never end and most of it I am sure no one has even looked at in over 30 years. It was great to goof off and dig through clothes with Sam and Emmy. We listened to music and pushed each other around in old laundry carts. We would take small adventures on our lunch break to small diners and strange drug stores. The work was hard and dirty but having some amazing co-workers made all the difference. By the time we left the warehouse was clean, like items where with like items and we even got to open 8 fresh bails of clothes.

The three of us stayed with Donna and her husband Bootsy on their farm out side of St.Louis. It was nice to leave the city every day and go to the country side. Their house is down a long dirt road, with a lake, a milk house, barn and even their own cemetery.. spooky! The three of us shared a room so it was little like summer camp. I was glad though because the wind would whistle through the windows at night and it was easier to go to sleep knowing I wasn’t alone.  The farm house was well decorated with fun and crazy rock and roll memorabilia and crazy furniture from the 60’s and 70’s and I would notice something new every day. Out in the barn was what they called “bootsy land” Bootsy is a huge collector of records and well lets just say I have never seen so many amazing records in one place EVER!

After work just about every night we had some sort of adventure in the city with either Donna or our friend Molly Sims, we even made a new friend, Nick. We went to strange bars, strange diners, strange peoples home(and I do mean Strange) According to Molly just about everything is that city is haunted… so that was well, SPOOKY. We didn’t get to go up into the arch but we could see it from the warehouse and drove past it to see the river and the wall of graffiti. Donna took us out on our day off to the country and to go “junking”

It was a great two weeks spent with amazing people, eating a ton of food, drinking a bunch of beer, and mostly a TON of VINTAGE. I made sure to bring some goodies home for the Etsy store.
